Mistakes You Need To Avoid While Making A Video Call

As everything in our world today is going digital, we all as human want to jump into this digital train and have the experience of what its feel like to be part of the digital age.
One of the most popular, simple and easy aspect of our digital life today is video call, video conferencing, video job interviews, online live video presentation. In today’s world video calls bridge the barrier of distance and enable us to have a face-to-face communication with love ones, friends & family anywhere around the globe.
This post will put you through on some common mistake you need to avoid while making or receiving a video call, so you not end up making a fool out of yourself.

Not Following Video Call Etiquette

Even though you are holding a discussion/chat session over a video call, it’s important to maintain regular eye contact, as not doing so makes you seem not interested or bored in the conversation, just because you are not in the same room together doesn’t mean you can abandon professionalism/manners and start eating while you talk, put your feet on the desk, or talk nosily with a friend on the background while the video conversation/chat session is going on. You must focus and concentrate with the videos session.

Loud Background Noise

Imagine you holding a video chat with one of your uncle that has been outside the country for a long time and you are about to discuss something important with him, and you are in a place lets take for instance a market where one would have to deal with all kinds of noise from the background, just see how frustrated you will be, not to talk about that your uncle that has given you the little chance he has.
So before you make or receive a video call you should isolate yourself to a room or environment where you can have a pin-drop silence while the video call session is going on. If your system has a mute button, make sure you use it at the right. If there are five people include in a discussion from one end, and if one person is speaking at a time; all the other four lines should be mute until he/she finishes with his/her part. This help to avoid disturbances.

Pay Attention To Background Lighting

A lot of people don’t know or are not aware of this very fact, that lighting helps in enhancing your video call quality, imagine how you feel when the person you are having a video chat tell you that he/she cannot see your clearly. This is one sure way to hurt your video quality when you sit with your back facing a window or a bright light while making a video call. When light is shining toward your back and into the camera lens, it makes everything in the foreground i.e you show up dark. When you change position so you are side-lit or front-lit will give you that clear and perfect picture you had hope to get, even when your phone camera isn’t that sharp.

Give Yourself A Background

How do you think you appear on your friend phone or computer when making a video call with a background so mixed up with all sort of things?
Camera love context leaning against a wall while on a video call session might feel comfortable, but it makes it harder for the person on the other end of the conversation to draw a good visual perspective. Try to choose a background that offers some contrast without being over busy but more importantly, provide space between your body and the background. Consider chatting in a location that’s a few feet away from a wall with something visually interesting on the background, like an artwork. Just remember that if your desk or floor is showing in the background, go ahead and make sure your space is tidy.

Make Sure You Have A Good Network Connection

One thing is sure at times network connection cab be very frustrating and annoying mostly when you are at the peak of making that important video call. At this point what should you do when you are about to make a video during a working day of which you know that millions of people around the world are using the internet to run their daily activities.
Do this if you are about to use a mobile phone/ computer system for the video call.
First of all close down all applications that are open and running on your phone/system or better still restart the phone/system, this is to ensure that everything are back to normal and working at their optimum best state. Then you can initial the videos call session and your network will be as free as possible, do well to avoid using a shared Wifi connection during video call session.

Maximizing Your Online Appearance

Not everyone look as good on video calls as they do in real life. The camera washes you out and squashes you down from 3D to 2D, and this doesn’t play well in your favor. So even though you don’t regularly wear makeup, always put some on before making or receiving a video chat.
Not you can see yourself in the video playback when you notice that you don’t really like the way you look might get you distracted or trouble during the video call session.
